Nice post, Ge! one of the company that I would mention when talking about smartwatch is Pebble. They were trying to be innovative and put the smartwatch image in a different direction, sadly they failed to thrive and eventually collapsed (with intellectual property mostly bought by fitbit) since they cannot compete with Major players like Apple.

Cool topic! I wonder if the high-end products will always be the first choice to professional photographers in the next couple years. Would they also shift to integrated cameras as opposed on using one dedicated device?

Great post, Maren! thanks for bring this up – its an interesting take to something that somewhat we take for granted these days. Wikipedia leverages the mobility of knowledge and information within the internet using their open knowledge initiatives, where everyone can create and edit any content with supervision, thus making it easy to scale exponentially while that was not the case for traditional encyclopedia and books…

Ge, nice thanks for writing about edX! it a great tool for long distance learning and I used it myself as a way to get a feeling of how these top universities teach their students, and in that sense it leverages the prestige/reputation these schools have into a good cause. However online educational platforms like edX and MOOCs in general are having a privacy concerns with their big data (especially sensitive data for students, related to the FERPA act) and it would be thought-provoking to see where this would play to the MOOC platforms businesses.

Love this post! I used Kaggle in the past as well to find dataset for a data visualization assignment. It’s always interesting to see a platform that promotes growth by crowdsourcing the skills, as well as make it competitive. I wonder if Google acquired this platform for the interest of looking at the data science trends in other industries, expanding their horizontal view.

As a long-time gamer since I was a kid, I was skeptical when Steam was first launched and the fact that they eventually became the biggest giant in the digital gaming platform (and market) is undeniably magnificent, not to mention the gaming community they built. In my opinion, part of the biggest factor of their success is they were able to transform the notion of “gaming” from a geeky activity into something that is cool (and competitive, with millions of dollars for tournament prizes every year) which drives more user and business to their platform. However, reading your analysis on how long are they going to keep the trajectory makes me wonder what’s next for them and their massive user base. Great piece!!!!
